I needed storage for all of my paperwork and shelling out the money for even a used filing cabinet just did not appeal to me. This filing system is not exactly cheap, but it comes with a lot of advantages. First of all, you can customize these drawers to the shape you want. They are individual, but can be stacked on each other or on shelves in a garage or office. I found myself trying all kinds of variations to get the right feel for my space. Also, the design is well thought out and works very well for my filing needs. If I was going to access these files more than occasionally, I would have to go for the steel variety. But the sturdy, reinforced cardboard of this system is durable enough for the amount of use I plan to give it.
One other positive is that the back side of the drawers also has a handle so you can pick them up and move them very easily.
As for the negatives, there wasn't a way to connect the boxes so that if I do stack them the top one doesn't tip over. The instructions say to open the drawer below a bit to let the top one rest on it. That seems ridiculous to me. They need to include some sort of clips to connect them on the back or something. I'll probably come up with some way to do that. Also, the appearance of the files has a definite temporary feel to it. If you intend to use it in an area where clients or customers will frequent, I would pass. This is more for the home office or storage space.
Overall, I think this filing system is just what I needed. It is not necessarily aesthetically pleasing, but it is extremely practical and far cheaper than the more permanent filing cabinets I looked at.
